Jan 2025: Important Travel Update for International Flyers
For those of you traveling internationally, please be aware of some new legislation that may impact your upcoming travels.
🛩️ New UK ETA Requirement: As of January 8, 2025, travelers from non-European countries (such as the US, Canada, and Australia) who don’t currently need a visa will require an Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) to enter the UK. This includes potential transit passengers. The process involves completing an online form, paying a £10 fee, and waiting for approval, which usually takes just a few hours but may take up to three business days. Once granted, the ETA is valid for 24 months.
🛩️ ETA Extension: Starting April 2, 2025, nationals of EU countries will also need an ETA to enter the UK (with exemptions for UK and Irish citizens and those holding valid UK visas).
🛩️ EU ETIAS Requirement: Beginning in Spring 2025, travelers from visa-exempt countries (including the UK) will need to apply for the European Travel Information and Authorisation System (ETIAS) before entering any of the 30 EU countries.
🛩️ EU Entry/Exit System (EES): Starting in 2025, non-EU nationals will undergo biometric screening (face and fingerprint scans) upon arrival in the EU as part of a new security system aimed at enhancing border management.
For smooth travel, it’s always best to double-check for any updated legislation and entry requirements before your trip.
Safe travels, and don’t hesitate to reach out if you have questions about how these changes might impact your travel plans!
